About the Salon

Capitol Hill's original
alternative salon, since 1999.

Punks to PTA moms and everything in between. We've been cutting, coloring, and screaming on Pike Street for 26 years — and we still mean it.

Our Story

Born on the Hill.
Stayed on the Hill.

723 E Pike St. · Seattle, WA

Scream opened in 1999 as Capitol Hill's first alternative salon — a place where you could walk in with a magazine clipping, a wild idea, or absolutely no plan at all and still leave with hair you actually wanted. Twenty-six years later, that's still the brief.

We sit a block off Pike, in the thick of one of Seattle's loudest, weirdest, most opinionated neighborhoods. The salon has shifted shape over the years — new chairs, new stylists, new playlists — but the room itself has never lost its volume. People keep coming back. Some of our clients have been with the same stylist for a decade plus.

Our values are straight forward: we are open minded, and we care about your wants and needs. That's the whole pitch. It works because the people in the chairs — and the people behind them — actually mean it.

"Get to know us — we're a pretty rad, talented bunch."

What We Stand For

Three things, no fine print.

01

Open Minded

Bring us the wild idea. Bring us the trim you've put off for six months. We don't have a house style we push on you — we have a chair, your reference photos, and a real conversation.

02

Your Wants & Needs

Every appointment starts with a real consultation. Your hair, your hairline, your lifestyle, your maintenance threshold. We work the look around you — not the other way around.

03

All Ages, All Styles

Punks to PTA moms and everything in between. Vivid color, mullets, dreadlocks, balayage, a perfectly weighted bob — same room, same crew, same care.

Today
Eight stylists, one room
Nikki leads a crew of eight on Pike Street — vivid color, mullets, dreadlocks, butterfly layers, balayage, perms. Open seven days a week, 10 AM to 7 PM.
You'll fit right in if
  • You want vivid color and a colorist who actually likes vivid color.
  • You want a mullet, a shag, a butterfly layer, or a clipper style that doesn't look exactly like the last person's.
  • You've had bad consultations elsewhere and want a real one.
  • You've been growing dreadlocks and need someone who knows what they're doing.
  • You bring your kid in for a trim and yourself in for a balayage.
A few house rules
  • Read the service descriptions when you book — make sure the slot matches what you want.
  • Please be on time. Running late impacts the client after you, so late arrivals are charged a cancellation fee.
  • Meg is a cut specialist — book Meg only for cuts and trims, never for color.
  • Consultations happen at the start of every appointment. Bring photos, bring questions, bring nothing — all fine.
